When playing roulette, the player can choose from a number of combinations, and can bet on just one number or a combination of several numbers. The bets are broadly divided into three main groups:

  • Inside bets
  • Outside bets
  • Posted bets

Inside bets

Inside bets are those that are made directly on a single number. They cover from 1 to 6 numbers and pay out 6x or 36x the original bet respectively. Most of these are available on European and French , as well as American roulette.  Here are the main variations on these bets:

  • Straight up – bet on a single chillo
  • Split – a bet on two adjacent numbers
  • Straight – a bet on a horizontal line of three numbers
  • 6-number line – a bet on 6 numbers in two adjacent horizontal lines
  • Corner – a bet on four adjacent numbers that have a common angle
  • Three of a kind – a bet on three numbers (0,1,2), in games with one 0
  • Basket – bet on four numbers (0,1,2,3), in games with one 0
  • Five numbers(small basket) – bet on five numbers(0,00,1,2,3), in American roulette

Outside bets

Outside bets

Outside bets are placed in the sectors that are located outside the number boxes. The options players can choose from are:

  • Even/odd – bet on an even or odd number
  • Black/Red – bet on a black or red number respectively

Bets announced

Bets announced

Announced bets are those that the player announces to the croupier before placing the chips on the table. They cover a given segment of the roulette wheel, i.e. in these bets, the numbers are not side-by-side as in outside or inside bets. In addition to placing the bet on the table, the bet can also be announced through a special sector called the restrikes. So, what are the types of announced bets:

  • Zero sector – this bet covers the number 0 and six numbers around it, thus covering 7 numbers in total.
  • Neighbours of zero ( big series) – this bet covers 17 numbers. These are 22, 18, 29, 7, 28, 12, 35, 3, 26, 0, 32, 15, 19, 4, 21, 2 and 25, in games with one 0.
  • A third of the wheel (small series) – this bet covers 12 numbers, which are 27, 13, 36, 11, 30, 8, 23, 10, 5, 24, 16 and 33. Unlike the other two bets, this one covers the numbers on the opposite side of the zero.
  • Big Series and Zero Sector bets are those made with five chips that cover a randomly selected number and the four closest to it on the wheel.
  • A final bet is one placed on all numbers that end in the same digit, with chips placed on each of the numbers.
  • Completed bets are those in which the player seeks to increase the total number of inside bets that can be placed on his chosen number.
